Could a VR game be developed in 24 hours?

Well, we did it!

RV Secure is a working prototype of a VR training program on Cybersecurity. This project was developed on the frame of the Hackathon of the Places VR Festival 2021. During this competition a team have 24 hours to create a prototype around a topic, this year the theme was “Datensicherheit” (security of your data) on the working space.

Our project won the Hackathon as Best Prototype because of the its easy adaptability for the everyday office use.

Inside the headset

The digital world was designed to replicate a common day at the office. Daily tasks were simulated, such as email replying, web conferences, password management, and file organization.

The objective of the game is that the user needs to interact with the elements simultaneously and take the most secure decision within a specific limit of time.

For example: Turning off the web camera after the online meeting, don’t leave a note with the password in plain view, or don’t open spam emails were some of the mini-games that the user should act on to win. Every task represents one point and at the end of the game, the user can see a feedback dashboard.

More than a prototype – a life experience

I not only learn tips and tricks on how to prototype in VR fast. My first Hackathon taught me that in media projects, one, you need to experiment and fail fast; two, it’s okay to don’t know what you are doing at the beginning; and three, good is better than perfect.
With my broken German, and my short experience with VR I was not prepared to stay overnight with 4 more strangers and try to work under pressure. In the end, I appreciate this experience that took me out of my comfort zone and motivate me to explore more in the digital universe.
